I am fortunate to have permanent tickets to the track in Richmond, Virginia and have been going to the races for over 25 years. There is nothing better than to see a race in person no matter at a super speedway or a short track. Just to hear the cars rev up at the start of the race and to smell the rubber from the tires is so awesome.

I have also had the privilege of going to Charlotte Motor Speedway, Martinsville and also Dover Speedway. Each track has its’ own special features. I can remember that at Dover, the track is bowl shape so when ever there is a wreck the cars slide to the middle and then sometimes you can’t see them, you just hear the car when it hits the wall. My husband and I went with other family members and we even took a camper with us and camped out but not at the track we found a campgrounds near the track and that was another new experience.

You can’t follow your favorite driver all the way around the track unless you have binoculars and a top row seat. On a short track you are able to see all the action and when three cars try to pass in places where only two can fit safely it can get real exciting. So I think that Richmond is my favorite track, maybe because we go there twice a year but I like to see all the action.

Another favorite thing that race fans love to do is tailgate in the parking lot. There is nothing like tailgating all day long with family or friends the day of the race. When we go to Richmond we get to the track early around about 7a.m. so then we can cook breakfast and then have time to walk around all the drivers trucks and see what is for sale. Then you have all afternoon to go back to the parking lot, rest and fix lunch or dinner before it is time for the gates to open up to the stands. We have met a lot of friendly people at the track and have even met some that just go to the track for the tailgate parties and don’t even have tickets to the race.

So If you have never seen a NASCAR race in person, I highly recommend it. Whether it’s a short track or super speedway I’m sure you’ll have a good time.
